SSLL Leadership Retreat 2016
WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS FOR THE SSLL LEADERSHIP RETREAT
NOMINATION FORMS CAN BE FOUND IN THE “DOCUMENTS” SECTION
This retreat is for members 13-18 years of age
This retreat is a reward for members of the Boys and Girls Club community who exhibited excellence in leadership throughout the 2016 Sens Sports and Leadership League season. This is an opportunity for them to interact with other youth and learn tools and techniques to make them better leaders and community members. At the 2016 SSLL Leadership Retreat – CONNECT they will learn the importance of clear, concise communication, working together in a team, and how to remain calm and work together in high-pressure situations. We will test their ability to adapt to uncomfortable situations and think on their feet by presenting them with the opportunity to work with different groups of people throughout each activity, doing timed and race activities, and engaging in activities that may be out of their comfort zone.
The 2016 SSLL Leadership Retreat – CONNECT will consist of both large and small interactive group activities, sports games, obstacle courses, and debriefs following each activity. We will begin with activities designed to get them out of their comfort zone (drama activities) and improve their communication skills, followed by team building and high-pressure situation activities. Each activity will conclude with a debrief — a conversation between the participants and the activity leader about how this applies to their lives in and out of the clubhouse, how this improves their leadership skills and abilities, and why it was relevant to the retreat. We will end each night (2) with by the campfire where we can discuss the full day’s activities, what we can improve, what we can do better, and set ourselves a goal for the next day (something we can all accomplish together).
At the end of the retreat each participant will be presented with a Certification of Participation and more information and opportunities as to how they can become more involved with the SSLL program throughout the year.
