Congratulations to all 8 of the teams who took part in our Junior soccer league this year. You all played some of the most amazing games that we have ever seen! We are particularly proud of you for your good sportsmanship.

It was a very close battle to the finals this year with one of the quarterfinal games and both of the semi final games ending in shoot-outs. Again congrats to all of you!

Britannia 2 managed to beat Britannia 1 to cinch the championship game – well done to both teams!

SSLL Leadership Retreat

The First Ever SSLL Leadership Retreat was held last weekend at Camp Smitty. We had absolutely amazing time, and the participants truly made Boys and Girls Club proud.

The participating youth had to be nominated by BGCO staff, with SSLL participation and their character as determinants to their inclusion. Activities included trust games, low ropes, team building exercises, an escape room, and a memorable keynote address from Canadian National Team Coach Dave Smart. Dave talked about many topics, answered questions and took photos with the participants.

We also talked about the many opportunities through SSLL to ‘give back’ and Volunteer in their Clubhouses, including training to become officials.

Evan Webb (a PHD student from Ottawa U) was on site. Evan is doing research on positive youth development. He’s developing a logic model on youth sport programming (working under the direction of Dr. Tanya Forneris), and was interviewing SSLL participants.

Special thanks goes to Rosie Warden and her amazing team at Camp Smitty for their support in making this a success.

Thank you to everyone who participated!

The SSLL Junior Soccer League began last Saturday with 8 teams playing at our NEW McGahan indoor turf field. All of the players had great games, and it looks like it’s going to be a fantastic competition!
